Professor Schroeter is Professor of Law at the University of Basel in Switzerland. He has published extensively in the fields of contract law, international trade law, arbitration, treaty law, commercial law and financial markets regulation. His research has been cited by courts worldwide, including Australia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the US, as well as by Advocates General at the European Court of Justice. One area of focus for Professor Schroeter’s research is the 1980 Vienna Sales Convention, i.e. the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). He is the co-editor of Kommentar zum UN-Kaufrecht (CISG) (Schlechtriem, Schwenzer and Schroeter, 7th ed. 2019) and the recently published Schlechtriem & Schwenzer: Commentary on the UN Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG) (5th ed. 2021), and has also authored the leading German textbook on the CISG, Internationales UN-Kaufrecht (Schlechtriem and Schroeter, 6th ed. 2016). Professor Schroeter regularly advises on CISG matters. He serves as the national correspondent for Switzerland to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law for the CISG and is a member of the CISG Advisory Council.
