One-Day Course of The Hague Academy of International Law:
International Comparative Law
The plurality of Legal Orders and the development of international and transnational relations involving both individuals and companies nowadays causes an impulse to approach private international law from a comparative perspective.
This is why The Hague Academy of International Law organises in cooperation with the Asian Academy of International Law, for the first time in Hong Kong, a 1-day course on ‘International Comparative Law’ that is open to all interested law practitioners and students.
The Course will be delivered by Professor Matthias Lehmann of the University of Vienna. Professor Lehmann is regularly invited at The Hague Academy of International Law to teach this topic to the Academy’s students. He will introduce students to the comparative aspects of private international law. The general part will present the major legal systems and their approaches to conflict-of-laws issues. In the second part, conflicts solutions in the specific area of contracts and torts will be juxtaposed and compared with each other.
The overarching goal of the Course is for students to become acquainted with the ideas underlying the different solutions and to get a deeper understanding of the opportunities for worldwide harmonisation.
