UPCOMING EVENT
The commercial space industry is projected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2035, yet it operates within a legal framework designed for a different era. As nations and private entities accelerate their space ambitions, from satellite constellations to lunar exploration, the gap between technological capability and regulatory clarity creates unprecedented risks for investors and operators alike.
The October edition of SpaceBiz Dialogues addresses a critical challenge: How do we secure investments and resolve disputes in an industry that inherently transcends national borders? We examine arbitration as the most viable mechanism for managing cross-border space conflicts, from satellite collisions to resource rights disputes.
The dialogue gains particular relevance amid growing international efforts to establish clearer space governance. Recent initiatives, including the Artemis Accords and ongoing UN discussions on space resource management, highlight the global recognition that new legal frameworks are essential for sustainable space development. Our speakers, drawn from space law, international arbitration, and government policy, bring direct experience in shaping these very conversations.
Hong Kong’s position as a neutral legal hub offers a compelling case study. Its robust arbitration framework, combined with unique access to Chinese markets and judicial support, presents a practical model for how existing legal centres can adapt to serve the NewSpace economy.
