The Paris Agreement on Climate Change is an evidence-based international agreement which seeks to scientifically assess on-going planetary conditions in order to fashion an international rules-based order to enable mankind to work together to avoid the catastrophic consequences and the potential existential threat of unbridled energy consumption and carbon emissions. Hong Kong, as an International Financial, Commercial and Communications Centre, has an important role to play in this global effort. With Mr Adrian Lai JP, Deputy Secretary-General of the AAIL, as the moderator, we will bring together three leading figures to explain the current global efforts and Hong Kong’s role therein. They are:

Professor Leung Wing-mo of the Department of Physics of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and of the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Professor Leung is a trained Meteorologist and former Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory. He will explain the latest scientific progress of the network of platforms that supports the Paris Agreement.

Ms Vivi Hu, CEO of YoujiVest, a leading climate change analytics firm. Her firm has won numerous international prizes in climate analytics and is at the forefront of using information technology in the global effort to manage the risks of climate change. She will explain how information technology and artificial intelligence will impact the global effort to deal with climate change.

Dr Anthony Neoh, Co-Chair of the AAIL. He will explain the rules-based order framework and how that framework has worked through international bodies, both governmental and non-government in fashioning international standards and how Hong Kong and China as a whole are responding to these international standards through domestic regulation.
