Digitalisation of Finance
This seminar focused on the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s ‘Fintech 2030’, which sets out a long term direction for the development of Hong Kong’s fintech and digital finance ecosystem. The framework is organised around four strategic pillars – Data and Payment, Artificial Intelligence, Resilience, and Tokenisation (collectively known as ‘DART’), reflecting not only domestic policy priorities but also Hong Kong’s engagement with the evolving international regulatory and legal standards in digital finance.
The keynote presentation by Mr George Chou, Chief Fintech Officer of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, highlighted how the HKMA’s initiatives are positioned within a broader international context, addressing cross border financial flows, regulatory coordination, and legal interoperability. Speakers explored how developments in digital assets, AI driven finance, and data infrastructure raise important questions of international financial regulation, governance and cooperation, and how Hong Kong seeks to contribute to and align with global best practices.
The programme opened with welcoming remarks by Dr Anthony Neoh SC JP, Chairman of Asian Academy of International Law, followed by introductory remarks by Mr Enoch Fung, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Academy of Finance. After the keynote presentation, the audience representing 6 jurisdictions including Hong Kong SAR, China, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Nigeria enthusiastically engaged in a Q & A session moderated by Dr Neoh, affirming the value of this seminar as being both informative and insightful.
