AAIL’s Co-Chairman speaking at AALCO’s 61st Annual Session
Ms Cheng underscored the important role of AALCO in providing a multilateral forum for the development and advancement of international law, where voices from Africa and Asia are heard, valued and reflected, especially when addressing today’s global challenges. She concluded by conveying her appreciation to the AALCO Secretariat as well as the Secretary-General, H.E. Dr Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol.
The Inaugural Session was also graced with the presence of the Secretary-General of AALCO who gave Welcome Remarks; President of the 60th Annual Session, H.E. Uma Sekhar, who gave Opening Statement; and Minister of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia, H.E. Professor Yasonna H. Laoly, who gave Inaugural Address. To kick off the afternoon session, the Vice President of Indonesia, H.E. Professor Dr (H.C.) K.H. Ma’ruf Amin, delivered Special Remarks.
Bringing together delegations of AALCO Member States as well as other participating bodies, this five-day Annual Session set out to review the work of AALCO and deliberate on an array of topics, including ‘The Law of the Sea’, ‘International Trade and Investment Law’, ‘Environment and Sustainable Development’, and ‘Advancing Cooperation between AALCO and HCCH for Promotion of Private International Law’, etc. through meetings and side events.
As an AALCO’s Observer, AAIL’s Deputy Secretary General, Mr Adrian Lai JP, also attended the Annual Session.
