Organisers:

Given the strategic importance of the South China Sea to the region and even the world at large, both geopolitically and economically, the South China Sea dispute has been attracting heightened attention. With Ms Teresa Cheng as the moderator, this lecture featured Dr Wu Shicun, a highly distinguished expert in this field. Looking at the past, present, and future of the South China Sea dispute in a comprehensive and thorough manner, Dr Wu provided an encyclopaedic analysis on various issues, from reviewing the history to examining the origin of the dispute arising from overlapping territorial claims of neighbouring countries. Added complexities have been brought about by the geopolitical tensions between China and US as well as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Looking ahead, Dr Wu suggested relevant countries to consider strengthening cooperation on topics such as environmental protection.
