The global space economy is rapidly transitioning into a multi-trillion-dollar commercial ecosystem, with the Chinese mainland projecting a potential trillion-dollar space economy by 2033. As low Earth orbit satellite constellations and commercial launches surge, unprecedented opportunities arise in space finance and data services. Hong Kong, leveraging its robust financial markets, common law system, and ‘super connector’ role, is uniquely positioned to capitalise on these trends.
However, these vast opportunities are accompanied by critical risks, including orbital congestion, space debris, and complex regulatory gaps. Existing international conventions are insufficient to address the fast-paced commercialisation of outer space.
Bringing together industry leaders, legal experts, representatives from the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, and Hong Kong SAR officials, the Colloquium will examine these pressing issues.
