Space Debris and the Future Space Economy of
the Greater Bay Area – Why Should We Care?

The August SpaceBiz Dialogue was jointly organised by the Orion Astropreneur Space Academy (OASA) and Asian Academy of International Law (AAIL) with the topic of ‘Space Debris and the Future Space Economy of the Greater Bay Area – Why Should We Care?’, featuring an array of expert speakers – AAIL’s Co-Chairman, Dr Anthony Neoh SC JP, Professor Gregg Li, Professor Quentin Parker, Dr Su Meng, Ms Iris Tang and Mr Foster Yim.

With his welcome remarks, Anthony shed light on the recent developments of space economy across various countries and the challenges that have emerged.

For the keynote speeches, Professor Quentin Parker talked about the ‘Kessler Syndrome’, specifically the existential threats to the viability of the low Earth orbit satellite ecosystem, while Dr Su Meng introduced the advancements of leading companies in the space economy and the potential solutions for sustainable development.

The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Professor Gregg Li. The panellists included Ms Iris Tang, Mr Foster Yim as well as both keynote speakers. The panel explored various technical and regulatory solutions to address the issues of space debris and discussed how the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong can play a pivotal role in this regard.
