With the new US administration, under what has been termed as ‘Trump 2.0’, comes the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape in light of the changing global dynamics. This lecture set out to look into the future of Hong Kong’s position as a leading international legal, financial and trade centre amidst the potential political tensions and economic uncertainties.
Professor Huang Jiefang, Secretary-General of AAIL, first gave opening remarks. Then, in his presentation, Dr Anthony Neoh SC JP, Co-Chairman of AAIIL, examined the potential implications of the new US administration on Hong Kong’s role in global commerce and finance, as well as the broader regional and international order. He addressed the key challenges faced by Hong Kong, including the rising protectionism, the changing trade policies of major powers, and the impact of new global economic strategies. He also highlighted Hong Kong’s need to adapt to these shifts while retaining its competitive edge as an international financial centre. Dr Neoh’s presentation ended with reflections on Hong Kong’s future trajectory, exploring the city’s adaptability and resilience in the face of potential political tensions and economic uncertainties.
The lecture sparked lively discussions among participants during the Q&A session, which was moderated by Mr Adrian Lai JP, Deputy Secretary-General of AAIL. The closing remarks were delivered by Mr Hans Michael Jebsen BBS, Founder Member of AAIL.
