This hybrid seminar explored the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as a key hub for navigating complex geopolitical challenges in international dispute resolution.
Moderated by Professor Huang Jiefang (Secretary-General of AAIL), it featured Ms Joanne Lau (Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre) and Dr Anthony Neoh (Co-Chairman of AAIL) and concluded with a Q&A session moderated by Mr Adrian Lai (Deputy Secretary-General of AAIL).
Ms Lau discussed the advantages of arbitration in addressing geopolitical complexities, introduced the 2024 Administered Arbitration Rules of the HKIAC and underscored GBA’s unique legal ecosystem.
After that, Dr Neoh examined GBA’s role in China’s economic development and emphasised the importance of technological advancements, advocating for collaboration and sharing of resources among arbitration institutions in the GBA.
The seminar also addressed the impact of sanctions on arbitration, before ending on an optimistic note, highlighting GBA’s potential to navigate geopolitical complexities, hence becoming Asia’s leading dispute resolution hub.
